The goats are all settled down for their Friday night movie time in Goat #1’s room, and the DVD is still showing previews when Goat #2 bursts into the office, so excited she’s tripping over her own feet, to ask me: “Mama? Mama, can I have dat Polly Pocket moobie? I loooooooove dat Polly Pocket!” (more…)

I cannot believe how very very different my children are from each other. Goat #1 is thriving in his very controlled, very challenging, small class, private religious elementary. Meanwhile, his sister is falling apart in the preschool. (more…)

Went to get the camera down off the top of the bookshelf today, to take some pictures for a post I’m about to write, and discovered that apparently, the very top of the 6′ bookshelf is not out-of-reach for Goats, after all… (more…)
Gee, do you think someone’s watching too much TV….?

Goat #1 started at a private school this year. After our uberfrustrating, inspiration-killing, mind-numbingly boring experience with public school in Exile, we knew we couldn’t risk him going back to that environment. So we did our due diligence (on the 3 whopping private school options available here in the Haute) and enrolled him in the one that was the best fit for our family. When we looked into private schools, we discovered that all of the options were religious schools. Not being Catholic (and not being willing to shoulder tuition payments more than 6 times higher than parish members) we eliminated the Catholic school almost immediately. Our other two options were very similar, but one had a preschool that Goat #2 could attend, so that tipped the scales in its favor.
So far, it has proven to be an excellent decision. It is everything we wanted for him when he started school, except a year late: (more…)

Welcome to [Almost] Wordless Wednesday, where I’m going to let the pictures do the bragging. On Saturday, while Goat #2 and I lay on our deathbeds, Goat #1 went with Goat Daddy to his (Goat Daddy’s) alma mater: The Ohio State University. For his (Goat #1’s) first Buckeye game ever. He loved the ’shoe (actually, much like the movie theater, he really seems to love concessions more than events) but he loved the Number Garden more. Check out the cutest little Buckeye ever: (more…)
Yeah, I know. I haven’t posted in a while. Grad school, and the assistantship, and the goats with all their germ-carrying potential, are kicking my ass. We actually went home last weekend for the Buckeyes’ home opener and yours truly and Goat #2 spent the weekend popping OTC cold meds and lying around the petri dish hotel room. I’d say I’m about 25% today, which is still way better than I was all weekend. Anyway, I owe you all (all 7 of you) a huge bunch of catch-up posts. In the meantime, though, I promised to allow an anonymous poster to use this space to say some things that she cannot say on her own blog. (Keep reading; I’ve posted the rules below so you’ll understand in a minute.) If any of what she has to say speaks to you, please leave some blog comment love to support her. Sometimes we (that’s the royal blogging “we”) just need to know people are listening. (more…)
