When the idea for this post came to me (via IM suggestion, LOL), I didn’t realize that today, October 15th, is Blog Action Day. This year’s Blog Action Day global issue is Poverty. While I know that this issue needs and deserves attention, this post is not about that. I could pretend to connect it with some fancy wording about “poverty of character” or how poverty is about lack, but I won’t. I apologize to anyone who came here hoping to read about my perspectives on Poverty, but I am up in arms about something a little different and this morning I realized I had had enough and it was time to do something. This post is about Equality. Nothing more, nothing less. Please feel free to leave and go to the Blog Action Day site and read/learn/help; I will not be offended in the least. As a matter of fact, since the rest of this post is a call to action, I really only want the supportive people to stay. I’m not here to persuade people who believe one way to come ’round to my way of thinking. I’m here to persuade people who think like I do to do something about it.
All right. So you’re here about Equality now. My specific focus today is marriage equality, and Prop 8 in California. So anyone who can’t or doesn’t support the civil rights of gay people to marry, you’re going to want to leave now, too. Go ahead over to the Poverty site. (more…)
Remember my last post? Yeah, neither do I. Other than a couple of amusing bon mots des chevres, I have left you hanging. But it doesn’t mean you ain’t been on my mind, as the song goes. I think I’ve talked to some of you. Not in person. And probably not on the phone, either. So not “talked to” in the traditional sense. More like “thought about calling you/IMing you/emailing you but it just seemed like a whole lot of work…” How’s the beginning of the song go, again? Well I tried to make it Sunday, but…I set my sights on Monday…? Yeah, substitute any day for “Sunday” and replace “Monday” with “tomorrow” and that’s more like it. I wrote a post a while back (It was a month ago? An entire MONTH?) about how life was kicking my ass; the problem is, that hasn’t changed. But I’m pretty sure my life shouldn’t feel so undoable every day. I’m not THAT busy; it’s not THAT much work. Yet I am THAT overwhelmed. (more…)
