Senary

Live free or die, bitches.  LIVE FREE OR DIE.

If anyone wonders what my underlying philosophy on this is, Ruth Benedict said it first and better than I ever will (from Primitive Freedom, 1942):

… liberty is the one thing no man can have unless he grants it to others.

I don’t just do this because I love Bronson and Sam. I do this because I love my own liberty, as well.

Override, bitches. OVERRIDE.*

Also known as “EPIC EQUALITY WIN”

*No, I’m not tired of that formula yet. None of you are reading this anyway, so stop complaining.

Yesterday’s post was woefully incomplete because I didn’t have access to the full text of the Iowa Supreme Court decision. I did try to get a copy of the ruling yesterday, in many places, but I never could get a page to load due to server timeouts. Of course, without it, I didn’t get a chance to include a brilliant analysis of my own about it in yesterday’s post. (What. I was a Legal Studies minor. I totally could have come up with something better than “It’s about fucking time we won one.” [Fine. I think we both {Hi, Dad} know that I wasn’t capable of much more yesterday.]) Continue reading

Here in Exile, we’ve been busy. Doing what, you ask? Mostly, sinning our tails off. Not just little tiny infractions, either (although trust me, plenty of that going on, too.) No, we’re talking major league stuff here. Mortal, even. Near as I can tell, we’re about 6/7 of the way to eternal damnation. I heard somewhere that confession is supposed to be good for the soul (no, I didn’t hear that at church. HA! Church! Notice my clever “blog = sacrament” convention. Not exactly Catholic. Perhaps small-c catholic, though. Anyway – ) I present to you the following summary of our surprisingly (for us; we’re normally quite half-assed at stuff) thorough sinfulness, in an attempt to post something cleanse our collective selves: Continue reading

When the idea for this post came to me (via IM suggestion, LOL), I didn’t realize that today, October 15th, is Blog Action Day. This year’s Blog Action Day global issue is Poverty. While I know that this issue needs and deserves attention, this post is not about that. I could pretend to connect it with some fancy wording about “poverty of character” or how poverty is about lack, but I won’t. I apologize to anyone who came here hoping to read about my perspectives on Poverty, but I am up in arms about something a little different and this morning I realized I had had enough and it was time to do something. This post is about Equality. Nothing more, nothing less. Please feel free to leave and go to the Blog Action Day site and read/learn/help; I will not be offended in the least. As a matter of fact, since the rest of this post is a call to action, I really only want the supportive people to stay. I’m not here to persuade people who believe one way to come ’round to my way of thinking. I’m here to persuade people who think like I do to do something about it.

All right. So you’re here about Equality now. My specific focus today is marriage equality, and Prop 8 in California. So anyone who can’t or doesn’t support the civil rights of gay people to marry, you’re going to want to leave now, too. Go ahead over to the Poverty site. Continue reading
